A Millefiori Experiment

Yesterday I tried a new experiment — making ‘millefiori’ style polymer clay earrings. Let me just say that I strongly recommend choosing something naturalistic like flowers or fruit slices for your first attempt at these, at least if you’re someone like me, someone who is not very precise by nature.

I think the end results are reasonably charming and autumnal, but VERY clearly handmade. Am going to price them very cheaply, as I definitely consider them practice efforts! I’m thinking $5 / pair? Will put in the shop, but also likely in an October flash sale.

But I do like this style a lot, and when I have a little more time to play, would like to try it again, try to do better. It’s definitely soothing, working with clay — squishing it to condition it, running it through the pasta roller to flatten it, rolling and shaping and cutting it. I think my favorites out of the set are actually the last ones I made with scraps that I rolled very finely — the end result has a sort of wood-grain look, which I think is cool.

I’m not sure any of these fruit / flowers / wood-grain would exist in real life, but that’s okay — they are clearly native to my terraformed planet of Kriti. 🙂
