Should I Set Up a Substack?

Platform question re: my stories. So, a few months ago, I started a new tier on Patreon, where for $3 / month, you get a new story of mine sent to you.

This has been great for me, because even though I have a total of 12 subscribers so far (woohoo!), it has been the only thing that’s actually gotten me writing fiction the last three months, as I struggled through something of a writer’s block. (Thank you SO MUCH, twelve subscribers! You brought four little stories into existence!)

I just signed a contract to write a story for another publication that comes out on Substack. I’ve never used Substack. I’m wondering whether anyone would prefer it if these stories were available to be subscribed to there, rather than just on Patreon. Proliferation of platforms can be difficult to manage, but I think copying over a story once a month to Substack is within my tracking capabilities.

So, would you like / recommend I set up a Substack for these? They are currently the Jump Space university stories, which seem to be evolving into something of a SF murder mystery novel as they go, but I am not at all sure if that will continue. All I can promise is one story / month. (I’m not even sure I can promise which day it will come out on, just to be very clear — I’d originally thought the first of the month, but I haven’t always been able to manage that…)

Picture of beach structure that Alex Gurevich‘s son built, which turtles promptly adopted as a place to build a nest for their new eggs. Serendipity. Sometimes something wonderful arrives, that you would never have expected.
