Dan recommended I try breakfast at La Note in Berkeley, and it was an excellent recommendation. I had an open omelette with potatoes and caramelized onions, served with slow-roasted Provençales tomatoes, and of course sourdough toast with whipped butter. With a good hot cup of tea. FABULOUS.
I gather they’re quite packed on the weekend, but on a weekday morning around 9, the restaurant was only about half-full, so I was able to relax, read my book (Monica Byrne‘s gripping _The Actual Star_, three powerful tales a thousand years apart, all of them converging in the same cave in the Belizean jungle)…
…and not feel guilty about taking up a table for a while.
Check out Monica’s book on GoodReads — I finished reading it on the plane, and I was completely caught up in it!
“Braided together are the stories of a pair of teenage twins who ascend the throne of a Maya kingdom; a young American woman on a trip of self-discovery in Belize; and two dangerous charismatics vying for the leadership of a new religion, racing toward a confrontation that will determine the fate of the few humans left on Earth after massive climate change.”
