A Quiet Morning

I’m having a quiet morning catching up with e-mail, straightening the house, watering the garden, and packing — I head out this afternoon to CA for a few days.

I’m going to visit Jed tomorrow, and then go up to Berkeley to teach at their Summer Institute for K-12 Teachers, teaching South Asian speculative fiction to high school teachers.

It’s going to be a blast, I think, and it also just makes me happy that Berkeley is offering this program — what a great way to get teens engaged with literature and their future! I’d love to see us do something like this at UIC someday.

Back on Friday, and then Benjamin Rosenbaum arrives Saturday, and we swing right into prepping to teach the first week of Clarion. The last two weeks of June are busy! But I am planning to go absolutely nowhere in July — I’m resisting the lure of ReaderCon, even though I will have many friends there — I need some quiet time at home.

Maybe I can actually have a summer garden that is regularly watered and doesn’t look completely parched. That would be a nice change.
