Quiet Sunday

I have nothing scheduled, for the first day in oh, a long time. Trying to take it as a vacation day — no pressure on myself to start summer writing (that can come on Monday). There’s been a lot of family needs / nurturing other people the last few weeks, and I don’t mind that in theory; I want to take care of my people. But I’m starting to feel pretty frayed; I need a day or two to be mostly on my own and reset, I think.

A little puttering in today’s plans, cleaning up and setting my house in order — I have a student worker stopping by to help me with organizing the basement this afternoon. Or maybe I’ll have her work with Anand and me on sorting the playroom toys and deciding which to give away (they’ve outgrown most of them) — we’ll see.

I made bubble bath while watching Vera this morning (I’m on a rewatch of the whole series, thinking about what makes these murder mysteries work so well for me; much of it is the protagonist, of course. Vera is kind when she can be, but also uncompromising when it comes to justice.) Making bubble bath turns out to be VERY straightforward: combine 1 1/2 c. hand soap, 1/2 c. glycerin, and your preferred essential oils, to make one 16 oz. bottle.

The supplies I got were enough to make 6 bottles, and cost $24 for the hand soap and $16 for the glycerin. I had the essential oils on hand already, but figure about $16 for 6 bottles? The bottles are about $2 each, so it works out to about $12 / bottle, which is certainly not the cheapest bubble bath, but it’s much cheaper than the brand of bubble bath I like best and can’t quite justify buying for myself, the Library of Flowers ($44 / 17 oz.) line.

Making your own lets you customize your preferred scents — I went with sandalwood-vanilla, one of my favorite combos.

I take a bath almost every night, so bubble bath is pretty important to me, clearly. 🙂 The proof will be in the testing tonight, but so far, it looks good — bubbled up a bit just in the stirring. We’ll see! I’m figuring I’ll keep one of the three bottles I made for myself, and ship two out for the last two Interstellar Patreon boxes, shipping in the morning.

Might make some more for a flash sale early this coming week, if this batch turns out as nicely as I think it will — for that, I think it’d need to be about $16 just to break even on my time and supplies, so will likely charge $22 / bottle. Comment below if you’re interested in the flash sale and want to be tagged in.
