Heh. West Cook News is the local rightwing ‘paper,’ I think?

They did a piece on my commencement speech, and you could do a fascinating analysis on what they chose to highlight from my bio (I wrote erotica, oh noes!), and what they chose to highlight from the speech (ending, without comment, on the bit about prison abolition, for example).

They also really emphasized my ‘be willing to change everything’ message, which perhaps indicates what they (and their readership?) find most frightening. Change is scary. Change is bad? Hmm…

Most of running for office is, sadly, a name recognition game. There’s a lot of research that shows that if people know your name, they’re more likely to vote for you. I feel like West Cook has never heard the saying, “All publicity is good publicity.” If I were actually going to run for office again, this would be more likely to help than hurt me…
