We’re critiquing in class today, but the student we’re critiquing was running late, so the students are doing an exercise right now, and I thought I’d share it with you — make three lists:
– things you love
– things you hate
– things you fear
They don’t have to be big things. Things I love include:
• sunlight on moving water
• wind in my face
• the seasonal succession of perennial plants, how some disappear, making room for new ones to emerge
So nothing huge, necessarily. But once you make the lists, you have a set of images / tropes / themes that you may want to come back to in your work, over and over, developing them further.
Here are the first daffodils from the garden. I was a little afraid I’d miss them while in CA, but no, here they are.
