Panel: (Creative) Editing Beyond the Western World — we had a good discussion with myself, Mimi Mondal, and Neil Clarke, even though Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki and Cecilia Tan had to join us by Zoom.
Cecilia kindly wrote up a brief blog post summarizing some of the discussion: https://blog.ceciliatan.com/archives/4555
The panel was followed by me and Cadwell Turnbull doing some autographing together. Nice to get a chance to catch up with him (he’s a lovely man), but it reminded me that I still haven’t read his second book, No Gods, No Monsters, which I hear is AMAZING. We interviewed him at the SLF about his first book, The Lesson, which I adored, episode 18.

“In movies, shows, and books, the aliens often invade the biggest, most iconic cities in our world. But what if the aliens chose to inhabit a place like the US Virgin Islands? In this episode, Mary Anne and Ben interview Cadwell Turnbull on his sci-fi book, The Lesson, and what its representations of aliens, violence, language, and culture says about our own troubled history with colonialism.”
