Okay, so I’ve taken the posting through to Monday morning — at this rate, it’ll take me two months to blog this five-day workshop. That’s okay. On Monday, we met the students — exciting!
They’re mostly in their 20s and early 30s, and just chock full of interesting ideas and new perspectives. Will this be the beginning of a flowering of speculative literature in Pakistan? Is this the next generation of storytellers? I think quite possibly yes. It’s really a privilege to be a part of it.
I told them they could call me Aunty if they wanted, and one of them did, and I just MELTED.
Okay, off to do another round of critiques! Four stories today, four individual 1/2 hr conferences with the students we’ve critiqued, and I’m doing an evening workshop on Writing the Taboo. We’re packing the days, but it’s okay — I think Liz and I both want to give the students as much as we can in this short, precious window.
(I do seem to have caught a cough. Oops. One of the organizers is bringing me cough medicine and cough drops, though. Maybe I can snag a nap sometime this afternoon…)
Lahore, Pakistan.
