Morning, folks. I woke up at 5 a.m., which isn’t bad for being slightly jet-lagged. Stayed in bed and read for a while, then finally got up, made tea, started my day.
Still no sign of my suitcase, hopefully today. But I bought a few dupattas in the market yesterday, and I travelled with a few changes of clothes in my backpack, so I’m managing. I have one pair of thin grey sweatpants, one pair of black yoga pants, one fitted white t-shirt, one green t-shirt dress, one thin cream cardigan, and even one fuzzy blue-purple sweater, that’s mostly too warm to wear during the day, but the temperature does drop significantly at night, so I can throw the sweater on for dinner in the evening.
(Yes, I’m kind of impressed I managed to jam so much into my backpack, along with a travel pillow, travel blanket, and all my electronics and snacks — it’s a great backpack.)
I might not be the height of fashion, but I’m going for clean and not looking like I’ve slept in the same clothes for days, and with regular washing out of underthings in the sink, I think I’m hitting that mark. It helps that they have an excellent shower in this guest room — as much hot rainshower water pounding onto my head as I want. Hard not to feel refreshed after that. That and the endless tea is sustaining me.
Ready to sight-see?
We had some time yesterday, so Usman took me and Liz and one of the students who’d arrived early on an expedition to do some sightseeing and shopping in Lahore. Those birds are known as black-wing kites (Milvus migrans), and they swoop down close — people throw leftover meat scraps to them, and so they’re often hovering around, waiting for a treat.
Lahore, Pakistan.
