Trying something new — I usually do my digital art with a pretty clean pencil or pen line, but Spoonflower’s challenge for the week is ‘granny squares,’ and they said, “we invite you to embrace the colorful stitches, fluffy fibers and geometric layout of this nostalgic craft.”
Which made me wonder if I could represent ‘fluffy’ — Procreate has a lot of brush options, and after trying a few, I settled on one in the drawing section called “Freycinet” — which looks pretty darn fluffy to me.
I wasn’t really in the mood to do the more traditional multitude of colors in different granny squares approach, so instead, I went for something very simple — just one square, in a muted autumn palette, as I think ahead to the next Patreon box, which I think will be Alice in Wonderland-themed to some extent. Alice in Autumn? Autumn in Wonderland? Something like that.
This feels like it’ll be a nice complementary pattern to mushroom fabrics, autumn trees, etc. Fun! What’s particularly nice is that it only took about 20-30 minutes to design, and I think I really like the result. We’ll see how it looks on actual fabric once I get my test print.
