Garden Log 6/9/22

One of the great joys of the garden — going out in the early morning once a week to collect flowers for the house. I’m going to miss this when we downsize!

Currently planned for 6-10 years from now, after Anand graduates high school. We’ll see how the budget holds up; everything’s very dependent on some variables we can’t control — kids’ college tuition + parents’ health care costs.

I’ll be a little mopey but also fine if we end up moving into a condo; I suspect by that point, I may even be relieved to have a smaller garden to take care of. Hopefully we can find one with a sunny balcony, or even better, a roof deck like the one we had in Wicker Park. Tomatoes and roses did great up on the fourth floor, baking in the sun, with brick half-walls reflecting heat back at them. It’ll be fine. (There ought to be contractors who specialize in building condos for gardeners who are downsizing and want to maximize gardening possibilities…)

But I’m certainly getting max enjoyment out of the big garden now. 🙂

“What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.” — Gertrude Jekyll

Can you name all the flowers?

How many vases do you think I’ll get out of this?
