D.C. trip: If there was something to be climbed, my kids (ages 12 and almost-15) tended to want to climb it. It seems a shame that there aren’t any playgrounds on the Mall — with so many tourists bringing kids there, it seems like a natural fit.
Anand is really into history (he can recite fun facts about American history at great length), but going and looking at monuments has basically no interest for him. So even a few hours of sightseeing (I tried to keep it really minimal and manageable) had him miserable at points. It was a challenge.
Both kids were much happier when there was something to physically interact with. Even if it was just a grassy hill.
