Exercise hack that’s been really working for me, so just in case you’re a weirdo like me — it turns out that if I put a board across the arms of my treadmill, I can use it like a treadmill desk. That’s not the hack — I mean, it is, but I’ve been doing that for years.
The new thing is that I’ve discovered that Lords of Waterdeep is a video game (D&D-themed) that requires just enough concentration that I can play it while walking at 3.0 speed, and that playing through one game takes about 30 minutes for me. So I play the game, and I barely notice that I’m walking on the treadmill.
The main challenges of exercise for me are a) making myself start and b) fighting tedium. Having a game as a lure has actually been really helpful, and most mornings, I manage to get in my 30 minutes, and it wakes me up, gets the blood pumping, and I’m in good shape to settle down for work afterwards.
I would plan to play through the game a few times (or several times) OFF the treadmill first, while you’re learning it.
