Goodbye, Goodbye

The redbud is budding, which is glorious, of course — soon all of the branches will be outlined in pink blooms. The way redbuds bloom all along the branches makes for a beautiful outlining effect, and judicious pruning can really highlight that. (I need to do a little judicious pruning.)

That said, I’m a little sad too, because by the time the redbud blooms, that usually means the first wave of early spring ephemerals are done. The snowdrops are gone, so too the reticulated irises and the species crocuses. Goodbye, goodbye, I miss you already. ‘Til next year.
