Wow, I think I am having a whole body rebellion at the idea of going in to teach today. I’m going to do it anyway, but all I want to do is sit in this chair, possibly with a blanket pulled over my head. I think part of it is the weather — can we get some sunshine, please?
In better news, today is the last day of the semester, and we are bringing snacks to class, and I am bringing clementines, because I’m sure most of them don’t get enough vitamin C and I was just reading about scurvy but no one will be happy if I bring them lemons.
I am going to read my Am Lit students some Sherman Alexie, even though he’s out of period, because I think it’d be nice to bracket this course with Native American writing (we started with creation stories). Next time I teach it, I’d like to research and find some Native American writing from the 1860s (when the course actually ends).
And in my fiction class, we’re going to plot a group story on the board, just for the fun of it. Also, do the exercise where they each put one book they love and want to recommend to their classmates up on the board — I like ending a fiction writing class that way, to remind them why they got into this to begin with.
