Second a yippee -- the first full issue of Strange Horizons is now up. :-) I'm especially pleased with David's Sheckley article which I hope will round up some more readers for Sheckley's terrific stories, and the anime review actually made me want to go out and find that stuff. Not my usual sort of thing. I like the fiction piece too, and if you like it, I encourage you to post some feedback about it -- there's just one quite negative comment on it now, and I feel for the poor author. It's exceedingly depressing just getting negative comments. :-( I've been there; I know.
Spent all of yesterday reading A Jewel in the Crown -- and frankly, it was good, but I don't know that it was the best thing to do with twelve hours of my time. Oh well. Finished it this morning, and now I'm in the midst of grading. I'm still hoping to hand these papers back tomorrow, but I suspect that'll entail getting up around 4 a.m. tomorrow. Meep.
At 3 today I'm taking the Spanish language exam -- Ph.D. students are required to show advanced proficiency in a language (at least in my department). I'll be curious to see if I pass; I was fluent ten years ago, but have hardly used it since. If not, I take it again next year, so no real harm done.
Then I come home, grade some more, and make some snacks for workshop tonight; it's my turn. I'm going to do pumpkin bread and fruit salad, I think. That should keep me nicely occupied and avoid too much stress worrying about what they'll do to my poor story. It's funny -- I'm not nervous about the exam, but I'm nervous about workshop. Oh well...
I should be able to breathe again tomorrow afternoon.
