Serendib Garden

I love this one. A spreading ground cover for part-shade that offers a haze of blue flowers for weeks in the spring, and pretty white-green leaves afterwards. Will scorch in sun, especially if it doesn’t get enough water.

I had more native double bloodroot than I thought — I found five this morning, instead of three! Woot! Also here, shooting star emerging, another native, and maybe some native wild ginger behind it?

I love the color change on the flowers.

Pansies are still going strong, despite the heat, as long as they get enough water.

One of the new natives I planted last year (which is why I left the tag, since I’m not familiar enough with it yet to identify it when it’s emerging. You don’t want to pull it accidentally, thinking it’s a weed. Sharp-lobed hepatica; I like the pointy leaves. It should have little white flowers soon.

Thalia daffodils, after watering. Much happier now. Locals, if you have any new plantings, DEFINITELY water them today if you haven’t yet this week — they’re likely struggling in this bizarre heat, and you could lose them completely. We’re not expecting rain ’til Saturday, and today and tomorrow will continue hot.

Thalia daffodils. I’ve started experimenting with the iPhone’s portrait mode (which blurs the background, in what’s called a bokeh effect) on flowers. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes, it creates an interesting composition.

Some of these clumps are big enough that I’m going to dig them up and separate them, extending the path further back. Maybe I’ll give some away too. I love how daffodils here just multiply generously over time.
