Last meal at the executive dining hall at LUMS. They treat their executives well — and don’t do badly by a cohort of starving writers either. Final reading, Salam Award workshop. They were all so good! Proud of my munchkins. I told them all to call me Aunty, so I guess I can call them niblings too. I was feeling very fond of them all by the end of the week. They worked so hard! They appreciated the opportunity so much!

Saturday morning at the Salam Award workshop, getting ready for the final reading. We’d sadly had a positive COVID test at this point from one of the organizers, so we decided to cancel the public reading scheduled and just finish off the workshop reading to each other instead — 3 minutes each for the students;

So, I haven’t written much about what it was like being a woman visiting Pakistan. Generally, I didn’t really notice gender as a factor on the LUMS campus in Lahore — it’s a very liberal campus, and I felt like I could wear basically whatever I wanted, and act just as I normally would. Colleagues
