Serendib Garden

Okay, here’s some drama — fritillaria persica. Wowza. New in my garden this year, and everyone keeps asking me what it is. It’s fritillaria persica. Now you know.  Plant as a bulb in the fall.

Checkered fritillaries. I was on the porch earlier today, and I saw a couple walking past, and the woman stopped still and made the man with her come and look at these, blooming in the parkway strip. Made me smile. 

Rhododendron buds, with allium leaves behind. It’s funny — I’m not sure my parents still have the rhododendron shrubs they had when I was a kid, but it doesn’t matter — I imprinted on those flowers, so it just makes me happy to have them in my garden. My own kids don’t really seem to

Virginia bluebells are starting to bloom — glorious spring native perennial, perfect for shady woodland spots.

Hm, I thought this was tulip “Ollioules” — which I’ve had in my garden for many years. But it’s peach and pink, not pink and white, so I think it’s something else. Mystery. With a haze of blue brunnera behind.

New tulip for my garden — “Spring Green”. I like it, I think, though I was hoping for more white and green — it may get a little more white as it goes, though. And I think it’d be more striking against a colored backdrop, so have to think about whether I want to move

Muscari. (Aka grape hyacinths.) Also come in white and pale blue…

Hellebores and Thalia daffodils. The hellebores are new in this parkway strip; I like how the composition has come out. It’s easy to take pretty photos of beautiful individual flowers. Much trickier planting them so they grow in the right place at the right time at the right heights to look nice together. 

Happy how this bit of garden design came out. I like all the different textures and colors around the blue pot. Now, if the blueberry I planted in the center will just make actual berries, I’ll be really happy… There are four other blueberries nearby, and they’ve all had amendments added to the soil. Fingers
