I think this is the semi-dwarf ironweed I planted last year, “Iron Butterfly”. Native ironweed gets 4-6′ tall, but this variety is supposed to stay to 2-3′ tall, which makes it work better in my sunny parkway border. I’m really liking how it looks against the Russian sage.
I was watering my new rose this morning, and an elderly gentleman walking by paused to ask, “Do you get monarchs?” I was happy to say yes. This isn’t a great photo — butterflies move fast, and this one was very active. But I was still happy to see it yesterday.

A vegetable of some kind. I really ought to label these things. Maybe a mini watermelon?
Some of the snapdragons I grew from seed. They’re in a window box — if I want them to come back next year, should I move them to the ground? Shake seeds somewhere? Thoughts? I really like the color.
