El Churro Bueno

Looking for something fun to do with kids on Sunday 10/27? We’re having a Halloween event at the Berwyn Shops tomorrow, 11 – 5. We’re planning on screening spooky movies, host a face painter, and if we can get the mic situation figured out today (wish us luck!), I’ll be reading spooky stories a few times during the day (aiming for around the top of the hour).

I also wanted to take this opportunity to highlight one of the shops, El Churro Bueno, which specializes in sugar-free and gluten-free treats. Nancy uses monkfruit for her sweetener (I am not a doctor or dietician, research to learn more). Nancy also has a really creative eye, and I love some of the items she’s come up with for Halloween — caramel and cashew spiders, empanadas de ojito (eyes), and what I thought at first was ground meat — but no, it’s cake!

And if you stop by my shop, if it’s not too busy, I’m happy to teach you how to make a floral pendant with UV resin, $10. (Today 10-6 OR tomorrow 11-5.)

Most of the vendors will also have bowls of candy tomorrow, so bring your little ones for some safe trick-or-treating — and if you want more, swing by Berwyn Sprout, where 33 vendors are ALSO giving out candy. (I wouldn’t expect any of that candy to be sugar-free, though…)

• Berwyn Shops: 6931 Roosevelt Road (at Clinton, just a few blocks west of Harlem, free parking in front of the store or the lot to the east).

• Berwyn Sprout: 7129 Cermak Road (in Cermak Plaza, next to Party City and Tony’s, 22nd and Harlem)
