Unfortunately, the university is struggling in various ways right now — housing is a serious issue, which is also contributing to difficulties with faculty staffing. I gather that it’s not just that they’re restricted in land availability — they’re also in a big political fight with the city of Santa Cruz, which is leading to them being denied building permits?
I don’t know a lot about the specifics, and I may be getting some of this wrong — feel free to add more accurate info in comments.Kavi’s still definitely considering it, though. We’ll see — it’s pretty tough for non-Californians to get into the UC schools, so she’d have to be pretty lucky.
