Delivering Ann’s finished wedding bouquet art piece today. I was nervous about taking this on, but it went fine! I think I’d be okay doing more of these, although if you’re a very particular kind of person, you should probably go with someone who does this all the time, and is able to give you very reliable results. With me, you get art, with many imperfections.
As you can see, many flowers change color when they dry — and they have to be completely dry to be encased in resin, or they will rot over time. So you should expect that if you’re having someone preserve flowers for you.
I gave Ann various options — a table, a tray, book ends, a shadow box, paperweights. All of those let me preserve the dimensionality of the flowers. Alternatively, I could have pressed them flat and then presented them in a piece of flat framed art. She went with the bookshelf arch option.
I let one rosebud protrude just slightly from the front, rather than making it all perfectly flat. Roses are the classic symbol of love and romance, so it seemed right that one might leap forward, just a bit. Lovely for a wedding, where you join hands and leap forward into an uncertain future. 🙂
