Garden log 4/8/20. It’s a perfect gardening day, and I was going to color my hair this morning, but I realized I would much rather spend that time digging things up and planting them again (once I’m done with prep for this afternoon’s teaching). My hair may not look so polished, but my garden will be spectacular. 🙂
My face may not look so great either — I managed to walk face-first into a rose stem this morning, bending to pick some daffodils. I may have said, “Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch!” out loud. I will recover, though, and the daffodils are very pretty. This is White Flower Farm’s “The Works” daffodil mix, which I recommend highly — in my zone, they come back reliably and spread gently over time, great value for money. Dig a trench, dump them in, cover it up again, and you’re golden.

Pictured here: daffodils (of course), also leucojum (summer snowflake), checkered fritillary, and hellebores with mini daffodils.
The earliest hellebores are starting to finish up their flowering, but they’re still looking glorious. That pink one is big enough that I’m probably going to dig it up sometime this week and divide it, so I can have one in the front garden as well as the back. If I get a reasonably-sized division to make it into thirds, I’ll give the third one away in the garden group, so stay tuned, locals.
