-which is sort of unusual for me, but the truth is, I was in a weird sort of gloomy mood much of the time (of which more anon), so I only even tried to go out for a meal once, and the place we tried to go was unsurprisingly booked up, so we went rather randomly to this place across the street, True Food Kitchen.
That said, the brussels sprouts appetizer (with roasted mushroom, marinated pepper, soy ginger glaze, lime) was very good, would nicely grace any Thanksgiving table, and the edamame dumpling appetizer (in dashi, with white truffle oil and herbs) was incredibly delicate and FABULOUS. I could eat that all day long.
I was amused to order the bruschetta trio; on cooking shows, they mock you now if you do a trio, because it’s seen as dated, I guess. But I like the option of tasting lots of different things. I really liked the middle item of the trio, which had roasted beets, blue cheese, herb hummus and chili-garlic crunch oil.
But the baguette was kind of big and maybe over-toasted, a little hard to eat and I didn’t love either of the others, so wouldn’t recommend those. But roasted beets + hummus + chili-garlic oil + blue cheese + some kind of cracker or maybe mini naan for dipping? That might show up at a party of mine in the future…
