Little shop update — total sales so far, a little over two weeks: $330.60. Yesterday was my busiest day so far, with five sales. So much busier on Saturday than on the weekdays! Obviously $57 in sales is not going to make me rich, but it did let me justify shopping for a few more craft supplies this morning, so that’s something?
And what’s not reflected here is that someone contacted me directly yesterday because they’d seen a post I’d made about the shop and wanted two of the new Halloween tea towels, but they got the time wrong and went before the shop was open, so they asked if they could buy directly, and I said yes, and it’s waiting on my porch for their pick-up now. So it’s actually $71 in sales.
Other little moments from yesterday — we were pretty busy from 3-6, but it started quieting down at that point, not surprisingly, so the last 90 minutes or so of the shift, I was mostly sitting and knitting, listening to the store radio. Nice to chill for a bit, especially since my back was weirdly sore — I think all the clambering around on ladders getting up the Halloween decorations? At 52, I’m still pretty nimble, but I FEEL it afterwards now…
Other pics — my assistant Stephanie Bailey stopped by with her son. Stephanie’s been working for me part-time for about four years now, and MANY of the items in the shop are ones she’s helped with in one way or another; I couldn’t have done this without her help. For example, she did the interior design for Vegan Serendib!
The random other people are just shoppers. It’s interesting watching and seeing what draws people. Occasionally someone will pick up a book and browse through, but mostly, people are really drawn to the botanical bookmarks (I think because they’re a little unusual), or they’re running their hands through the hanging tea towels.
(Which always reminds of that line from McCaffrey’s Dragonsinger, when the snarky rich girl says to the shopkeeper about Menolly, “Don’t let her finger the wares, she’ll only get them dirty!”
Don’t worry, snarky rich girl gets her comeuppance a moment later, and Menolly gets a beautiful blue fire lizard belt…)
