A lovely start to the season

We’re expecting some below freezing temps for a few weeks, so I went out and collected all the full blooms from my Trader Joe’s hellebores (that I’d planted in pots outside). Figured I might as well enjoy them, since there was a chance of them getting some frost damage. (The plants themselves are hardy and will be just fine outdoors — I may end up trimming a bit of damaged leaves when we’re past the cold temps.)

Floating some in a bowl of water — not as much variety as when my own hellebores start blooming (soon!), but still, a lovely start to the season.

I pressed some of the flatter ones, which I’ll likely use decoupaged on greeting cards or pressed between sheets of glass for hanging art. And I’m drying some in desiccant, which I’ll embed in resin for trays, tables, etc.
