Futzing with plants

I have masses of e-mail to deal with, so of course, I spent the first hour of the morning futzing with plants. In my defense, I’m going out of town on Wednesday for 5 days (World Fantasy Convention in Niagara Falls, restaurant and sightseeing recommendations welcome!), temperatures have abruptly dropped, and I need to bring the outdoor tropicals in today.

Anand helped me with moving the furniture — this is also when I do the traditional seasonal shift of the couch, from facing the back deck and outdoors, to facing the TV, a more cozy configuration for autumn / winter, surrounded by mostly tropical plants. There’s a hibiscus out in the front that I need to dig out of its pot; might need help with that, since my wrist is still bothering me, so annoying.

I spent a fair bit of time also trimming off dead branches and leaves; they’ve been pretty neglected the last few months, so this is a good opportunity to give them a trim and a freshen-up. They’d probably like some fertilizer too. Now, have I actually watered all the ones that came in? I can’t remember….

Went for a swim — I’ve been so busy that I’ve neglected exercise, but I really need to get back to it. Liz has been coming weekly for strength training, but I should be doing cardio every day. And I like swimming! It’s just finding the time. Making the time. Prioritizing the time. Health first.

Plan for the rest of the day — e-mail for the next hour and a half, and then a little treat — the kids are home for Indigenous Peoples’ Day, so I’m going to take them out for brunch. Probably trying out the new Egg Harbor Cafe that’s opened up in walking distance — I hear it’s really good. And there’s a new Mochi Donut place nearby too. I am mostly trying not to eat many sweets these days, but I’m pretty sure mochi donuts are my favorite donuts, and I might have to try just one from the new place.

After that, I’m tentatively planning to go down to the Shops and work there for the afternoon, alternating more e-mail (sigh) and crafting — I have my pressed botanicals over there at the moment, and I’m almost out of paper bookmarks and resin bookmarks, want to be sure those are stocked back up again before I go out of town. And at some point, I should do some laundry and put away some laundry and figure out what I’m packing for World Fantasy — that might have to wait for tomorrow after teaching, though.

If I have time today, I’m also hoping to experiment with concrete — new! Exciting! My ADHD really wants to do that right now. But I’m being very stern with it and saying it has to do all the boring stuff it’s already done before first, before it’s rewarded with the new! shiny! treat!

(Heh. The panorama view really makes my living room seem much bigger than it actually is. Don’t be fooled!)
