So, I’ve gotten approval to host free Friday workshops at my new shed shop, yay! Today is just going to be drop-in, but I’m going to set up Sign-Up Genius for the other dates (see below for link).
All workshops take place in shed #11 at the Berwyn Shops — 6931 Roosevelt Road (intersection with Clinton). There’s a free parking lot just to the east, two spots in front of the store, and lots of street parking all around. Three of the sheds offer food and drink, so it’s easy to grab yourself a latte or a snack when you arrive. I encourage you to stop by the new The Pile Bookstore when you’re in the area, just a few blocks west.
I’m tentatively planning on offering these Friday afternoons, because that’s the quietest time in the shop (it’s open Fri / Sat / Sun), but if there’s strong interest, I might add ones for Saturday and Sunday (probably late morning or early afternoon).
Those are more likely to be interrupted by my needing to ring up customers, though. Let me know!
9/27: basics of flower drying (press, microwave, and desiccant) – drop in anytime from 11-6 and I’m happy to show you the supplies and talk you through the various processes
A few workshops have a small ($3-$5) supplies charge; you’ll get to take something away with you.
10/4: UV resin for jewelry-making
10/11: resincrete (a non-toxic blend of resin and concrete)
10/18: no workshop!
10/25: basics of crochet and/or knitting
11/1: making polymer clay jewelry
11/8: making papercraft bookmarks (young kids welcome)
11/15: stamping and embossing greeting cards (young kids welcome)
11/22: mix a curry powder blend
11/30: write a cookbook (concept to recipe-testing to publication)
NOTE: In general, these are meant for adults, but if you have an older child (10+) who can sit reasonably quietly for half an hour, they’re welcome too.
NOTE2: People keep asking me for a two-part epoxy resin workshop (what I use for pouring tables, book ends, serving boards, etc.), but that’s difficult to do, because it involves toxic materials, and I’d need a large, well-ventilated area and masks for everyone (I use a ventilator mask). I don’t think I can manage that this fall — possibly next year. Maybe in the summer, so we can set up outside. If you’re interested in that, comment below with your e-mail and EPOXY, and I’ll drop you a note if it happens.
NOTE3: The shed is small, as you can see in the first pic; I can fit 3 people at a time comfortably around the table. 5 if we squeeze. So do reserve your spot if you plan to attend (once I set those up!), and if you reserve a spot and then discover you can’t attend, please cancel so I can open the spot up again. Thanks!
