Small businesses are ridiculously weather dependent.

I had all kinds of ambitious plans for after work last night — I’d be home by 7, so surely there’d be plenty of time to sew up a few aprons and maybe some tea towels before bed?

But instead I came home and crashed. Read for a while, then Kevin chopped onions for me and I made a chicken and potato curry, because I’d eaten fast food all day, and that just makes me feel gross at the end of the day. Then I ate the curry, and we watched the second episode of Agatha All Along (fun, esp. as we head into spooky season), and then I fell into a very deep sleep.

This morning, I did start sewing eventually, but didn’t get very far before it was time to go. But I remembered to assemble the boutonniére for Kavi’s Homecoming date ($3 worth of flowers and florist tape and pin), so that’s a big mom win.

I even managed to drive Kavi over to the high school with two coolers — Med Club is providing popsicles for Homecoming. I’m a little bummed that I won’t be home when she and her friend are getting ready, but she PROMISED to send me photos. Her last Homecoming — oh well, I was around for the first three. It’s okay.
In the shop now — I’ve put out some more items — iPhone botanical cases, the rose table, autumnal glittery keychains, more floral book ends. Still doesn’t feel quite full yet, but it’s getting there.

And a friend stopped by with a friend of hers and they bought a set of honeycomb coasters and several tea towels, so that was a nice start to Saturday. Thursday night I had this terrible feeling that I’d go to all this effort and expense, and then nobody would come to the store all weekend, which would be very sad.

But people did come — it’s quiet on Friday, which the other vendors had warned me about, but hopefully today will be busier. It’s the last (hopefully) super-hot day of the season, I think, which might keep people away? There are also several fall fests going on, which might draw those folks who don’t mind being out in the heat. And tomorrow’s supposed to rain, which the garden DESPERATELY needs, but may affect foot traffic.

Small businesses are ridiculously weather dependent. This is something I never thought about as a writer. People can read in any weather. 🙂
