Drying zinnias. I picked up one fancy item for drying flowers a while back, and it’s really nice — there’s a basket within a plastic box, which means you can lift the basket and most of the silica gel gently pours out, making it less likely that you’ll damage the flowers. There’s even a little calendar built into the lid, so you can easily set the date you put the flowers in, so you know when to pull them out.
It’s just pricey — $33, which is a lot if you’re not in serious business doing this. And if you ARE in serious business, then you’d need a lot of them, so really pricey. I mostly use just tupperwares I had on hand already, but this is nice for flowers I want to be particularly careful with. For these zinnias, I ended up fitting five layers in here (forgot to take a pic of the last one!), so that’s pretty efficient.
It comes with a mat to work on, which does help minimize silica gel mess and waste.
