It’s silly and charming and I love it

So, I was at Anthropologie a month or so ago, and I checked out the clearance rack as I usually do, because I love their clothes, but they’re mostly too pricey for me. And I found this ridiculous dress on clearance, and it fit me, and so I bought it, even though I had no idea when I would wear such a thing. Not only is it dramatic and ruffly, it has streaming ribbons that flow down from the shoulders — it’s silly and charming and I love it.

It turned out to be perfect to wear for my little birthday party at the shop yesterday (and possibly for many birthdays to come — it feels very birthday-ish. Or garden party-ish. Someone should invite me to a garden party).

And then I did something fun — bought two coordinating colors of nail polish, and painted my nails to match. (I mostly keep my nails very short and unpainted because I have neither time nor patience for fussing with them, and I do a lot of work with my hands, so expensive manicures would quickly get wrecked.)

For the fingernails, I did a color block stripe, but instead of using tape to get a clean edge, I kept it rough, because I wanted it to have the same paintbrush / watercolor feel as the dress. And for the toenails, I did mismatched nails — one color on the big toes, and another on all the little toes.

Silly, fun — in the midst of all the national political drama (Biden just announced he’s not running for re-election! Big news!), it’s really good to spent a little time just being silly.

(My actual birthday is the 26th — I had the store party yesterday because I was working a shift then.)
