And then, on to Sprout

Yesterday was a pretty intense day — woke up, had brunch with my girlfriends, which I mostly spent with my laptop open dealing with backlogged work, but it was nice doing that with friends around happily chatting with each other.

Also, it meant I didn’t have to feed myself — Nara made a great spinach-bacon quiche (I had two pieces!), and Roshani and Carollina and Amanda brought other deliciousness. I’m trying to be more intentional about seeing my girlfriends at least once a month; it’s good for my sanity. We talked some about family and relationships, but mostly about politics, both local and national. We’re an opinionated (and reasonably well-informed) group!

Then on to campus to meet George and take him to my classes, which went great. Afterwards, he had a little time, so we went to Greektown for a late lunch. Darius and Angeli were able to join us. Perks of working for the SLF — you might get to have a meal with a famous writer once in a while. 🙂

And then, on to Sprout, where the vendors had scheduled an open house. That was a good idea, I think — we had most of the vendors on site, and it was really nice to get a chance to chat with most of them, and welcome in some of the new people, like the group behind Tie Dye Collective. And we had some good traffic, sold a few things, nice to bump up visits on a Friday night. I think we’re tentatively planning to do the open house again in three months.

I wish I’d taken more photos, but I did get one cute one of Kenia and Karla helping one of the new vendors try on a gorgeous little imported shawl-thingie from Mexico. It’s the perfect item to toss over a sundress when you’re going out for dinner in the evening and want just a little more warmth. I just wish I had plans to go lie on a beach sometime soon — I’d definitely pick one up for myself!
