I stopped by the store for a while this evening to add some more stock and label some things I’d run out of time to do before. It definitely helps being there — I sold a copy of Feast to a woman who had a niece who was marrying someone Sri Lankan, so that was fun. I don’t think she would have realized it was a Sri Lankan cookbook unless I was there (so perhaps I need to add a note saying that…)
Someone also bought a scarf when I wasn’t looking, and now I’m wishing I’d labelled the scarves individually so I knew which one it was — oh well.
I rearranged the store some, and I think it’s better — I’d still like to get a larger display piece for the window, but I’m tapped out on Serendib House budget at the moment if I want to pay my part-time staff (and I do want to pay my staff!), so that’s going to have to wait until people buy more stuff. Hopefully soon! (I’m expecting a few writing / speaker fee checks, but they may take a little while to arrive, so until they do….)
Lots of people were in the store for the assessor event, and I got a lot of compliments on my pieces, so that was really nice. I think it may do well for birthday and holiday gifting. We’ll see!
I haven’t quite figured out how to manage stock between the store and online sales — if you spy something you want in one of my posts, do ask; I may be able to pull it and sell it to you.
