Came home from the Sri Lankan party last night pretty stuffed on picnic food, and yet, a few hours later, I found room for just a little more. Kanagalingam Mary had kindly brought over some fresh pittu and fish curry (thanks, Mary!), which was the perfect dish to close out the night. I was TIRED, so ate and hit the bed early, watching old sit-coms until I fell asleep.
Spin City (1996-2002) is really HUGELY problematic in all kinds of ways that were completely not evident to me back when I first watched it. The amount of sexual flirtation and outright harassment that is just taken for granted as part of the office workplace — at a government office, no less — is kind of shocking.
West Wing started three years later, and although they have some of that too, it’s not nearly as blatant or constant. Maybe because it’s not a half-hour comedy show, or maybe the changing times, or maybe the writers / director — who knows?
I still find Michael J. Fox oddly charming, though.
