I think this may be my favorite native IL plant — wine-cups (purple poppy mallow / callirhoe involucrata) are just so pretty, and they bloom for months on end. They tend to ramble over the ground, so perhaps not neat enough for some gardeners, but I like a little wildness (or a lot of wildness) in my garden; they make me happy.
