Took a few minutes to plant up my hanging porch planter. It’s always a little bit of a tension on when I want to start planting in it, because it does need regular watering, since it doesn’t hold so much soil (you could do succulents if you want to water a little less often), and it’s covered by my porch, so it gets no precipitation.
But I love celebrating spring with it as early as possible, so mostly, I just commit to watering, even if, like today, it’s still occasionally snowing!
This year, I went with pansies and muscari (picked up at City Escape — they don’t have much yet, I’d probably give them another week or two before going over there). The muscari should last a month or so, and then the muscari bulbs can be planted out in the garden to hopefully come back next year. The pansies will last until it starts getting hot, so I’ll probably pull the muscari and find something else to pair with the pansies in early May or so.
