Immigration rally in support of the coming vote Monday night that we hope will make Oak Park a welcoming village, with strong protections for our immigrant neighbors. I wasn’t surprised, but I WAS pleased, to see a really large crowd out in Scoville Park, despite the cold. Nice words from State Representative Camille Lilly, among several others. There were 2-3 counter-protesters standing way in the back, with signs supporting Trump. It is a lonely thing, being a Trump voter in Oak Park.
It was our kids’ first rally, and I’m not sure they really understood how it was supposed to work — Kavi may have thought Trump was actually going to show up to be yelled at. But we’ll train them up in the ways of our people — they’ll be expert protesters before long.
