Serendib Sprout

Lots of experimenting with polymer clay this week – there were a few techniques I wanted to try.

This is transfer paper – you buy a sheet, press it onto the clay face-down, rinse the backing off with a little water. Similar to temporary tattoos, though not exactly the same stuff. Unfortunately, they turn out to be more delicate than I realized – my first batch baked at the clay’s recommended temperature burned, […]

Two Week Sales

Little shop update — total sales so far, a little over two weeks: $330.60. Yesterday was my busiest day so far, with five sales. So much busier on Saturday than on the weekdays! Obviously $57 in sales is not going to make me rich, but it did let me justify shopping for a few more

The Birds Have Invaded

See my hair, standing straight up in terror! Yes, I found Hitchcock’s The Birds quite terrifying, why do you ask? (If you haven’t seen it, recommended, apparently because I wish to share the trauma…) There isn’t really SO much scope for decorating without making the store super-crowded, but the birds seem to have invaded the

Window Clings

I really like these ($9) window clings. I admit, the fact that the store gives me a new place to decorate is part of the fun of running it. I’d been feeling a little disheartened because there were three (!) days (!) of no sales at all, but then on Saturday, someone was buying one

You won’t find these at Target! Very limited quantities. (Also cookbooks, resin jewelry, bookmarks and more…) Right next to

The Pace of Production

It’s going to take me a little while to figure out the appropriate pace of production for the new shop. Yesterday was a sad day — no sales, alas! As Kevin said when I told him, maybe I shouldn’t base any decisions on a random Wednesday in mid-October — that’s clearly right. Yet still, a

Taking Photos Is Tricky

It is so tricky taking photos — these polymer clay earrings are a little warmer-toned in person than in the photos, I think. It was really fun working in the shop on Saturday and seeing two teenage girls looking at these, holding them up to their ears, etc. V. charming. (As always, if you see

Autumn Earrings

New autumn earrings in the shop! But I can pull a pair if anyone wants a particular one, just comment on the photo to let me know. These are some petals from my garden, but I have to start keeping better track of flowers as I dry them, because I have no idea what they
