Light suffuses the sky, glowing
behind thin clouds; the world
is luminescent in the early hours,
and the air above the mountains
is clean, every tree, every branch
sharply outlined and defined; it is easy
to make grand pronouncements, believe
in absolutes, in this cutting light.
