I take his point, and I share the sadness about it; and yet, the graph is a little misleading in its choice of y-axis values. Or to put it another way, presenting it in the form of a graph kind of obscures the fact that there’ve only been twelve people on the moon total, and only 24 humans who’ve gone beyond Low Earth Orbit, according to Wikipedia. (I didn’t know that until just now; I thought it was more.)
So I’m certainly in favor of increasing the number of people who’ve been up there. But at this point, increasing it by one might double the width of the graph, and I don’t think that would really address the underlying issue.
