The semester starts next week, so today feels like the last hurrah of summer. I have Garage Galleries tomorrow, so I’m focused on finishing pieces.
Just did a resin pour — that’s probably the last one that will cure in time for display tomorrow. I’m planning to tell anyone who wants to buy the last pieces that they should really let them sit in a dark room on a flat surface for a week, or plan to do porch pick-up from me in a week. I can move them after 24 hrs, but they’ll only be soft-cured at that point, and if they’re left on a non-flat surface or in sunlight, they might warp.
Plan for the rest of the day:
• take an hour or two for e-mail work; I’m starting to have student e-mails coming in, here we go! Also some SLF work. One nice thing — yesterday my department asked me to switch one of my classes, so now I’m teaching two sections of the same course, instead of two different courses. That means less prep during the semester, and since the course I was originally teaching was a new one for me, that also means less prep during the semester. I’d still love to teach that other class (Advanced Nonfiction Writing), but I’m happy to do it in a future semester. 🙂
• pour one more set of resincrete pieces (or maybe two), since they’re just 30 minutes to do, and 30 minutes to cure.
• do some finishing on pieces — there are some that need sanding, and the resincrete ones need sealing. And a few jewelry pieces that need findings added.
• if there’s time, make some passionfruit marshmallows and/or cashew milk toffee to give out to shoppers. Free samples! (Each one needs 4 hours or so of setting time before they can be cut, so should do those early if I’m doing them.)
• if there’s time, sew a few more scarves and tea towels
• if there’s time, make some more pressed flower greeting cards
• if there’s time, make a little more pressed flower hanging art.
• unmold this morning’s pour and maybe squeeze in one more pour — I might be able to finish the hydrangea table. We’ll see!
• swing by Berwyn Sprout before they close at 8 and pick up some pieces to add to the show; there are a few trays and bookends I’d like to grab, two jewelry displays (full of jewelry), possibly a table, resin bookmarks and paper bookmarks…
• if I have the energy, pack up the car tonight (with the family’s help). But there should be time in the morning — Garage Galleries is from 12-6, I think set-up starts at 10, so if I start packing at 9, I should be in fine shape. Of course, the family might like to get the kitchen island back at some point…
I’m planning to switch away from blue-themed / ocean crafting after today, and start working on autumn, but if you want one of that style of piece, I’m happy to make it for you; just let me know.
Okay, e-mail. Onwards!
