I was talking to another candle maker last week who asked how I used molds — they only do candle pots. They weren’t clear on how the wick got in there. The answer is, you poke a hole in the mold. The silicone will seal up very nicely around the wicks, no problem.
It can be a little nerve wracking the first time, cutting into a mold you just bought, but that’s what you’re supposed to do!
Sometimes you have to cut more. This mold is very flexible; some are stiffer and it’s hard to get the candle out. For my tall pillar candles, for example, I just cut straight down the side of the mold, which makes it easy to remove the candles.
But the KEY is to use some rubber bands to tightly wrap around the mold, holding the cut sides closed, or you’re going to have hot wax spilling all over your counter….ask me how I know. 🙂
