Thinking about translation, and I realized I don’t know how writers navigate this situation. So, Bodies in Motion was published in 2005 by HarperCollins, right? And they sold various translation rights, including Spanish, which came out from Grijalbo in 2007 as Las voces del Monzón.
If I wanted to issue an edition of that myself, would I contact Grijalbo and ask them for the rights? It seems silly to pay to translate it from scratch, if there’s already a Spanish language edition out there. Maybe I pay something for the right to republish their translation?
I don’t think Grijalbo has it currently in print, or available as an e-book, and while I don’t expect to sell a lot of copies, I’d love to make Bodies in Motion more available in other languages. Publisher / translator friends, help?
(I’d also still love to do a Sri Lankan Tamil translation, which has never been done — need to find a translator for that.)
