Can I take five minutes to kvetch?
Y’all know it was a bit of a mad run-up to end of semester with the new shop and all the weekend arts fairs, right? So, normally, I would be pretty done with all that now and ready to actually rest and relax for two weeks (once I finish my holiday shopping). And I am, sort of.
BUT:
- on Thursday, our dryer broke
- on Friday, my car blew out a tire, and since it’s a weird car, it turns out almost no shops carry the right tire, and it’s going to be complicated to get it fixed, so I actually ended up having to rent a car for the weekend
- on Sunday, my laptop screen died
I feel like I’m under a curse, folks.
So far today:
- I’ve talked to the dryer guy and they’re going to call me back to set up a service call (we think it’s the fan belt, and it’s repairable, so it’s $200-$300 instead of $1300 for a new dryer; we hope so, anyway)
- I made a Genius Bar appt., drove out to Oakbrook, where they confirmed that they thought they could fix it and took my (backed up, thanks, Kevin) computer away — it SHOULD be free, covered under AppleCare, fingers crossed — but I’m leaving town before they ship it back, so I’m having it shipped to my mother-in-law’s home in California, and I’m borrowing Kevin’s old laptop which hopefully works well enough for me to get by for a few days
Still to do today:
- call car dealer and figure out what’s the best way to deal with the complicated tire situation (gah)
- meet with house sitter at 2 and give her key — DONE
- go to hardware store and make more keys — DONE
- meet with other house sitter and give her key
- swing by Carnivore Oak Park and drop off some more cookbooks for them — DONE
- sit down with Kevin and go over the holiday gift plans, figure out what still needs to be acquired — DONE
- return rental car by 4 — DONE
- if the dryer people haven’t e-mailed or called to schedule yet, call them — DONE
- call about gutter cleaning (should have dealt with earlier, hopefully not too late now)
- call about furnace regular servicing (was due a month or so ago, sigh)
GAH.
What I really WANT to do is figure out why my white pigment paste keeps sinking down to the bottom, and if that’s just what it does, and whether I should use white alcohol ink instead, and what’s the best way to clean the pigment paste from my molds and the base of the trays / coasters. Tips welcome.
