This is a shout-out to a local business, but also, I have a question for any yarn-crafting friends. My colleague Karla really loves to crochet, and she makes all kinds of adorable things, from crochet earrings, to trendy boot toppers and headbands, to adorable poke ball hats. But it’s not easy making crochet available at a price point that’s affordable to the neighborhood — crochet just takes time.
Karla could work in more luxurious wools (she does have some Peruvian highland wool items) and charge more for those, but I think it’s early enough in her business that she hasn’t really built up a clientele that knows what that kind of work costs and is able to pay for it.
I’m wondering if any of you have suggestions of things she could offer that aren’t quite as labor & time-intensive, but still related to crochet? Karla does have some cute t-shirts, bags, and stickers. I’m wondering if maybe some kind of kit would be appealing?
I’d love to bring her some brainstorming thoughts — she’s been a great colleague at Sprout (7129 Cermak Road, Berwyn, in the Cermak Plaza at 22nd and Harlem, next to Party City and Tony’s.)
