Garden Log 10/7/23

The last few weeks have been extra- harried, and I haven’t been able to get out into the garden, but I finally made it out there yesterday.

At least one of my late-planted dahlias is actually blooming — I tried planting dahlias in the parkway for the first time, which was clearly a good choice — it’s my sunniest spot, and this one is thriving. I finally got around to staking it up (should’ve been done a while back), and it’s looking much happier.

The hardy mums have come back, and the Rozanne geranium is twining through one of them.

The annual ageratum I scattered as seed a few years ago has reseeded and is beautifully filling in under the redbud tree.

I think that last one is an Illinois native, wood aster? Not as showy as the ones breeders grow, perhaps, but with its own charm.
