Reasonably Awake

I’m awake! This is a big accomplishment for me today, because after the red-eye on Saturday night, I wasn’t able to nap, so I did yesterday’s speech basically on adrenaline. I managed to stay mostly awake until 10 p.m. (dozing off briefly during a re-watch of an old episode of Vera), and then finally went to sleep and slept 12.5 hours.

I’m now feeling reasonably awake, but also like my arms and legs are made of lead, so I think any serious gardening plans will have to wait ’til tomorrow. I am too old to pull all-nighters, clearly!

I may putter around and deadhead a big, pick some flowers, set the sprinkler going. What I really need to do is MASSES of weeding, planting dahlias and glads, and putting down mulch, but that is going to have to wait.

Thankfully, I have plenty of computer work to do, assuming my eyes stay open. Going to start with posting WisCon pics, then I need to work on my teaching, service, and research statements for my promotion file (due this week), and my new story (overdue for Patreon, thanks for your patience!).

The first Wiscon pic is this one — I did a little play testing of Benjamin Rosenbaum‘s _The Ghost and the Golem_, a choose-your-own-adventure coming out soon from Choice of Games for your phone-playing & reading pleasure. I loved it, of course; it’s set in the shtetl, with plenty of supernatural elements along with the romantic threads, discussions of the Talmud, and threats from violent goyim…

I particularly love that Ben starts by giving you the choice of whether you want to read it in standard English, with a little Yiddish sprinkled in, or full Yiddish. Which triples the work for him as the writer, of course, but how cool is that?
