Lots of logistical stuff around here right now as we get ready to go out of town to CT for a week (hope our flight beats the snow!) to visit my family. (CT friends, we’ll theoretically be there 12/22 – 12/27). So far today:
– I’ve set up our housesitter who’ll take care of house and cat and watering plants — I used a new-to-us service last time we needed this, Rover.com, and it worked out really well, recommended; we’re working with the same person this time around.
– I’ve talked to the vet about Ellie’s bloodwork, which we needed done before dropping her off for boarding; we could’ve kept her at the house, but she’s getting pretty darn old (17+) and we thought the animal hospital would be a better option for helping her get more comfortable; her kidney and liver functions are even more elevated, so they’re planning to start her on a liver supplement and do fluid treatments. I feel better knowing they’ll be able to monitor her for a week, give us a good report with plenty of detail when we get back. I’m bracing now for losing her; the vet says it’s unlikely that she’ll make it another year. The goal now is just to make sure Ellie’s last year is as happy as all the ones before.
– I think we got the last of the Kickstarter orders out yesterday, woohoo! And I have two more Patreon orders to get out today, and two Shopify orders, and then if I have the energy, I might do one final holiday flash sale this afternoon, just to get the last of the sweets and maybe a few scarves out the door. I’ll have time to ship them tomorrow, but I can’t guarantee they’ll arrive by Christmas at this point, please note. Watch the wall for the flash sale if interested!
– now I need to go find someone to do snow removal; I’m so behind on this, gah. Usually we hire a local teen, but I think I may just go with a service this year, since I don’t have a lot of time to do set-up. Well, we’ll see. If you have a local teen who wants to do snow removal near the Y, let me know.
– and then I have gazillion e-mails to answer; I was doing okay for a while, but then in the last few weeks of end-of-semester grading and getting the books and boxes out the door, e-mail just was beyond me. I’m starting to wake up panicking about it, though, so clearly it’s time to just put my head down and make it happen.
At least I have entertaining TV to keep me company — I’m watching The Empress (a dubbed German show) on Netflix, about the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, which is good fun. No idea how historically accurate it is. Much sexy intrigue.
AND I had a delicious breakfast to fortify me for all this — saffron rice, swordfish curry, pol (coconut) sambol. Fish for breakfast — it’s the best!
What did you have for breakfast today?
